Twitter Counter, the biggest statistics provider for Twitter users, today announced that it acquired Twitaholic, a competitor in the field of statistics for Twitter users for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition strengthens Twitter Counter and the development of its features. Additionally, the deal will enable Twitter Counter to grow its presence in the world of user statistics.

"Twitaholic has a big userbase of Twitter users that check their stats regurlarly. We are eager to build on their succes, keeping the uniqueness of Twitaholic while adding more proven and exciting features for its users," said Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten, Twitter Counter's co-founder. "This acquistion enables us to grow Twitter Counter, reach a larger audience and and offer more useful services to our combined audience."

"We've had a lot of fun building and running Twitaholic over the last few years, but it was always just a side project for us. Twitaholic was originally part of the same company that owned Emurse.com, which was acquired by AOL. Twitaholic was not included in the AOL acquisition and a big reason we're selling is so we can focus more on our exciting challenges at AOL. Twitter Counter is a self-funded start-up based in Amsterdam, with 3 full time employees and is profitable with over USD 500,000 in revenue in 2010. Clients include Microsoft, Yahoo!, Facebook, eBay and Paypal.
